Situated in the heart of downtown St. Petersburg, Florida, Bayfront Health St. Petersburg has served the residents of area communities for more than 110 years. Opening in 1910 as Good Samaritan Hospital, the hospital continued to grow and was well-known for many years as Bayfront Medical Center. Bayfront Health St. Petersburg was established in 2013 and continues to be a well-respected name in healthcare throughout the region. Orlando Health, a not-for-profit healthcare organization headquartered in Central Florida, officially acquired Bayfront Health St. Petersburg from Community Health Systems (CHS) on Wednesday, September 30, 2020.

Bayfront Health St. Petersburg is a 480-bed tertiary care center equipped to provide comprehensive medical and surgical care. The hospital offers many areas of expertise, including surgery and trauma, neuroscience, cardiology, acute rehabilitation and obstetrics. The hospital has a 38-bed neurosciences unit with a dedicated neurology team consisting of board-certified neuroscience specialists and physicians with subspecialty expertise in stroke, epilepsy and Parkinson’s disease, and includes a Level IV Epilepsy Center. In partnership with Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, Bayfront Health St. Petersburg Baby Place offers full obstetrical services and is a Level III Regional Perinatal Intensive Care Center, one of only 12 in Florida. The hospital also is home to the Bayfront Health St. Petersburg Cardiac Cath Lab, located in the James Heart Center, which offers a full range of cardiovascular care and an on-site inpatient rehabilitation unit, as well as the nearby Bayfront Health St. Petersburg Wound Care & Hyperbaric Center.

Bayfront Health St. Petersburg offers numerous surgical specialties, including general surgery, cardiology, gastroenterology, gynecology, neurology, orthopedics, otolaryngology (ENT) and urology. In addition, our freestanding surgery center offers same-day, outpatient surgical options in many areas, including orthopedics and sports medicine, plastic surgery, spine, ENT, chronic pain management, breast biopsy and infertility procedures. The center offers advanced laser and laparoscopic procedures and features innovative technology such as 3D computer-guided navigation and 4D breast biopsy.

The hospital also is a Level II Trauma Center, the only trauma center in Pinellas County. Offering adult services, the center cares for more than 2,500 trauma patients a year. Our lifesaving trauma care is further supported by the hospital-based Bayflite, a medical helicopter service providing emergency air transport for critically ill and injured adults and children over a 15-county area. In addition to our hospital emergency, trauma and critical care expertise, the freestanding Bayfront Health St. Petersburg Emergency Room located in Pinellas Park offers convenient access to complete emergency care with board-certified emergency physicians and registered nurses, and a full range of emergency diagnostic and treatment resources, including on-site imaging and laboratory services.

As an academic medical center, Bayfront Health St. Petersburg trains the physicians of the future and offers graduate physician programs in family medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, and sports medicine. As such, we are committed to staying on the forefront of medical research and technology.
